Fear Over Hawaii

The push of a button
Fear hangs over Hawaii,
children crying
mothers screaming
men staring through vacant eyes,
searching for cellars
under houses built on concrete.

The push of a button
doom closes in
swiftly
silently
uncaringly

The push of a button
horns blare
dogs bark
cars race

The push of a button
fighting men
looting shops
burning fires

The push of a button
Inbound nuclear attack
Seek shelter
This is not a drill

The push of a button
a soldier leaves his station
end of the shift
tired, drowsy, going home.

The push of a button
in
error.
